A Toast to the Coast

Picture this: you're sitting on the side of the hill or on the balcony overlooking the 18th green at Astoria. The sun is shining but the wind is whipping off the Pacific. You keep warm by sipping on a cold beer or a glass of champagne to salute the winners and to celebrate the end of the tournament. The trophy ceremony begins and one by one each winner makes the infamous trek down the hill.

In 1977, Larry Guisti beat Phil Underwood on the 36th hole, and he commanded the champagne to flow. Larry's father was a successful wine distributor in the Portland area, and with little prodding, sprung for all the champagne that the club had in stock. The tournament committee couldn't help but make it a tradition.

Be sure to join us this year for a toast to the coast, and a cheers to our favorite week of golf.
